P22 THE LEGACY LIVES ON IS A FINALIST AT THE JACKSON WILD SUMMIT 2025

P-22: The Legacy Lives On was nominated for Innovation in Green Production for its commitment to sustainable filmmaking that reflected the conservation message at the heart of the story. Inspired by P-22’s legacy as a symbol of coexistence between urban life and nature, the production prioritized a hyper-local, low-emission approach. The crew was entirely based in Los Angeles, drastically reducing travel-related carbon emissions, while all equipment, post-production, and services were sourced within a 10-mile radius of Griffith Park.

On set, every effort was made to minimize environmental impact: filming was fully digital with no printed materials, LED lighting was powered by portable solar batteries, and no diesel generators were used. Cameraman Alex ensured no plastic bags were used during the shoot, that he and his assistant relied solely on reusable water bottles, and that every location was left cleaner than it was found, often picking up litter left behind by others. Cameraman Davis committed to driving an electric vehicle throughout the shoot, further reducing the film’s carbon footprint.

Indigenous voices were central to the narrative and music, with meaningful consultation from the Gabrielino-Tongva community to emphasize land stewardship and cultural sustainability. The result was a thoughtful, low-impact production that demonstrated how small-scale filmmaking can model environmentally responsible practices without compromising on storytelling or quality.
